Hi Tina,
I took an informal survay, years back, of the contra dance community in
general.
I found that for the most part dancers, musicians, and I assume
callers are very well educated/ professionals but are quite modest
on such subjects.

Hay Rickey,
I have collected a 'book' of begginer contra material that I will be glad
to share
with you. The next time we cross trails will probably be in Kingston. I'll
bring it
with me.

Hi Chris
I'll be at Downeast. If your going aginst the medly, sorry I'll
be in the other room... that's the tough thing about festivals
there is always to much to do and conflicting venues.
Good luck with the workshop!
See ya there.

clicked out to soon (darn computer) Nantucket Sleighride is one of my
favorite
dances to dance and call! The "Ride the Waves" looks great from a high
stage.
(The arches resemble ocean waves thus the name) Beginners as well as
experianced
dancers seem to really enjoy the dance.

Hi Ricky,
You can teach it as 1s Arch 2s back through 2s arch 1s back through (2X)
the traditional call after teaching the dance is "Ride the Waves" which is
the
whole arch sequence. It saves a lot of 'talk' during the dance.

Hmm I wonder if the folks who pen dances are also Lefty dominant?
this would explain the preponderance of Circle Left in
modern dances ;-)

Give the dancers credit. They will adjust to the
dance as needed.
I recall, years ago, there was a couple who really
did not care for each other and they were caught
in the dreaded shadow swing. Instead of making a fuss
thay turned the swing into a 'Lady Walpole' and did
a DSD in it's place. T
Hi Chris and all Shared Weights,
It was good to see those folks that I see but once a Year!
Though I was in attendance for Part of the RPDLW,
I did miss the callers workshops.(the outside world
held sway) I would be grateful if folks who were in attendance
would provide a brief synopsis of the

Every other month (or so)

or weekday evening???
(my experience is: halls are hard to come by and expensive
in seacoast NH)
A smaller venue than a normal dance hall will do.

Hi Callers
I'm looking for dances that go well with Cape Breton style
fiddle tunes. I'm doing a gig next month with Roger Treat
I have a full evenings dances mapped out but would like to supplement
a couple of dances that really go well with C B tunes
(tunes would be a +)
Thanks

Hi Rich,
If I am reading the dance correctly, and perhaps this has been already
suggested
How about a: Cal Twirl into the Partner swing. This can be done by either
partner
Its quick and sets up the swing nicely.
Thanks Gale
