At this point you can throw in an elbow swing or a promenade. I've done it
with ages 9-10, never tried it with younger.

Hi all,
Here's another contrary circling dance that I've had good success with:

Beth Parkes, Circle Mixer

back out (face in)

It is extremely chaotic! You can reduce the chaos slightly by getting the
band to stop randomly during the circling, at
Why not just have everyone face left and single file promenade instead of
circle to the left? The circles are still moving in the opposite direction
and right shoulders are adjacent for the Dosido.

RE: The Wheel
Bill Olson noted that the dance can be challenging with the ladies in the
outside circle, due to their generally shorter arms.
Given that the promenade is a long 16 beats, Has anyone tried adding a two
hand turn after 12 beats to put the

"The Wheel" has been a favorite of mine since 1994. Around here some call
it "Wheel of Misfortune" -- hilarious! (i.e. who will the fates deliver
unto you for a swing?)
I could never find it in my Gene Hubert books -- apparently because it was
published in his first collection "Dizzy Dances" (
ANY level! I've never had experienced dancers not have a
good time.
I miss Gene!

I find Monkey in the Middle (by Sherry Nevins) a friendly variant of Ninepins.
You are choosing a partner rather than scrambling and a person feeling left out.

Good to know! I’ve only done it at low-key community dances without aggressive
dancers and people seemed to enjoy it and laughed at the goofiness of doing
“the bump”, but it sounds like a good dance to avoid with certain audiences for
sure. Thanks!

I heartily second Maia's opinion. I know someone who tries that move on
women every time there's a LLFB and it really rankles me. It's intrusive,
and some people bump too hard, causing bruising. Not fun.

At the risk of being a wet blanket, I've found Carmen’s Contra (the dance
with the hip checks) to be pretty uncomfortable to dance -- that's some
pretty close contact mandated by the choreography. If anyone on this list
chooses to the call this dance, I'd encourage you to offer an alternative
move
Here are a few dances I’ve found can enhance a silly atmosphere!
Carmen’s Contra, which I think is by Lisa Greenleaf

Silly? you came to the right place! I have a couple that fill that bill.

then reverse the zipper and come back the other way to meet up
