It turns out this ftrace-direct.tc test is highly related to the number
of CPUs on a SUT.
It took 46minutes to run on a system with 224 CPUs.

So, the logic surrounding this means that over time as the new changes
start to have coverage of the whole queue and running tests (i.e. when
all the currently running tests have stopped and fresh ones have
started) this situation SHOULD be impossible. You should never be able
to have the same test
Brian's hotfix has made it into master, I have a more appropriate change
that I'm linking to this bug now.
