I tried it, updated pom.xml and deployerConfigContext.xml in the resulting
deployed cas.war and still get http status 404.Any ideas at all would
be greatly appreciated.

I would be grateful for a step in the right direction. Everything works
with 4.0 until i try to persist tickets to the mysql database, then it all
goes haywire. (404)

I downgraded to java 7 and it is working, OR it was because i used the
pom.xml from
https://wiki.jasig.org/display/CASUM/Best+Practice+-+Setting+Up+CAS+Locally+using+the+Maven+WAR+Overlay+Method
instead of cloning the latest github repo.
