This happened to me as well recently with a new ROACH board. I
noticed that the file '/etc/network/run/ifstate' was corrupted. When I
used the command 'ls -alh' all I got was question marks in each field. I
was unable to rm or mv the file, or even execute 'touch ifstate'.
Our sys admin was able to get our system back up to working condition with
the following script:

Looking at your model, you have write enable pulses coinciding with every
second address location. Even though a write enable pulse writes two 36 bit
values, each address location addresses a full 72 bit data burst, so if you
want to write the entire qdr you need to increment the address
For the moment, I scavenged another SD card from a working ROACH, which
seems to have fixed the issue. I'd say that that FS corruption is a
pretty good bet. I'll try this out tomorrow, when I get the chance.
