I saw the Chimney Swifts on Tuesday evening on schedule and in the correct
place. The Blue Water Grill looks like a super place for dinner. They were

After a long day of grading papers yesterday, I decided to spend the
morning today walking a good chunk of the Finger Lakes Trail in
Shindagin Hollow. I didn't find any mixed warbler flocks, but there were
lots of rewarding birds nonetheless. Some highlights with a complete

fun birding despite the Peregrine chasing away most of the shorebirds on the
main pool.

While on a walk, my wife spotted an adult male Pileated Woodpecker
slightly off roadway near intersection. He had his head tucked back as
though attempting to sleep. There was no apparent external damage. I'm
guessing that it was flying low and was struck by a moving vehicle. I
