Hi All,
Just a quick note to mention that there was a Greater White-fronted Goose
present at Seneca Lake State Park in Geneva this morning (8 Jan 2011). There
was also a very interesting large hybrid goose that looked like it might have
been a Canada Goose x Barnyard cross.
Good birding,

My friend Dan Watkins and I had a nice (but cold!) day of birding
in the basin. We began at Stewart Park and saw a nice raft of
decoys, mainly mallards! The hunters were around on the west
side of the lake. So, most of the gulls, and waterfowl
were on the east side of the park. had the 3 main gull
This afternoon (4pm) I walked along Dodge Rd and found a nice flock
of 20 Snow Buntings doing wheelies in the Millers' pumpkin-patch
field on the west side of Dodge Rd. (along the Cornell gas-line).
Several times they perched in a neat line on the power-line wire,
allowing me to count them.

Following up on Chris Woods' post, I saw a (the perennial?) Red-shouldered Hawk
less just behind Kip's Barn on the west side at 1140h this morning...Stuart

Hi M, K, & All,
My opinion in answer to your question is they are birds that spent
the summer WAY further north. If banded we could learn.

I spent a couple of hours at Summerhill this morning. Highlights were
a flock of 12 Horned Larks foraging on the edge of Salt Road near the
southern end, a single Evening Grosbeak around the feeders at the
Hovel Chalet (the feeders were mostly empty), and a possible Hoary
Redpoll in a flock
Next Monday evening (Jan. 10) Kevin McGowan will host the Cayuga Bird Club's
annual
"Members Share Your Photos Night". Plan to come at 7:15 for "cookies and
conversation" prior to the 7:30 meeting.
Also, all are welcome to come to dinner with Kevin and other Club members at
the Ithaca Ale Hous
4 bluebirds foraging berries in the shrubs this morning in our front
yard. We seem to have Bluebirds all year round which makes me wonder
if these are summer birds that stay or is the southern home for those
that live a little further north?
