close to shore. Probably missed some due to tree obscuration.

It's been a long time since I've seen any American Coots in the SW corner of
Cayuga Lake, but just now there were 4 close to shore. I recall some posts a
while back mentioning dead Coots and concerns for their health were raised, so
I thought I'd report their presence.

Hi all,
The farm immediately south of the Triangle Diner has a fresh
manure/bedding spread, in the fields, holding HORNED LARKS, SNOW BUNTINGS and
at least one LAPLAND LONGSPUR.

Kevin and I journeyed up to Summerhill this morning, where we spent a
couple of hours watching the big redpoll flock at the feeders on Fire
Lane E on Lake Como Road. The flock is still big, at least 200 and
probably closer to 300 at times. The are pretty flighty, so we didn't
get much to time to
I drove around some of the locations Michelle Mannella had mentioned for
Short-eared Owls as I wanted to try my ne toy I have acquired. Unfortunately, I
did not see any owls at all. Has anyone, Michelle? seen them recently or did
they decamp after snow accumulation?
I did see a flock of SNOW
I took a drive up the east shore of the lake on Friday morning. I was hoping to
find some waterfowl rafts, but had no luck. However, the frigid overnight
temperatures (-5F according to my car thermometer!) and the clear skies at
daybreak created some dramatic fog on the lake surface.
And
I'm thinking about driving up to Amherst Island the weekend of the 26th to look
for some wintering owls to photograph -- particularly Saw-Whets (and anything
else would be a bonus). To those who are familiar with the area -- is this too
late in the season? Also, if people have other tips
