Compared to Chris I am barely a birder, and considering the amount of time
spent birding in 2012, I am even less of one.
However, on May 8, at our feeders we had a Blue Grosbeak. Carmen
Hockett spotted it first and she knew it was different. I was so consumed
with eyeballing it that the camera, at

Florida) or most longed-for bird (Burrowing Owl, also Florida). It was the one
that made itself available for close and repeated observations: the Eastern
Screech-owl. During the summer, we hosted a family of 2 parents and
About 11:40 this a.m., an adult Cooper's Hawk flew into our back yard and
perched on the lower rail of our fence. Three crows (our resident family,
less one) were in attendance without the showy dramatics they go thru with
Red-Tails. The crows sort of stalked around and got closer and closer to

While I was driving by on Flatiron Rd., I saw a dark phase Rough-legged
Hawk 5 times in ~12 recent trips past Goetchius and a N. Shrike twice.
Good odds for the hawk, but not so good for the shrike. There is a
population high for voles in the grasslands at Goetchius, probably good

As I stepped out of the house this afternoon, I heard a cardinal belt
out a few notes. The bird apparently thought better about its timing
and promptly ceased singing. Anytime I hear birds singing during the
winter, I keep praying that this might be a reliable harbinger of better

Summer Hill) at Nick's place. Sorry I don't know the exact address. I
actually stayed on Lake Como Road even though his home is on the lake.
There was a cleared off area, so... I grabbed my scope and watched from
