This morning from about dawn (6:46am) until snow commenced (7:18am) I watched
for migrating loons from the NYS-89 bridge over the Flood Control Channel near
my yard. I hoped that a lull in precipitation at take-off time might prompt
migration, and I aimed to watch without risking a car trip to T
There were numerous loons off Elm Beach Road in Ovid this afternoon, as
well. I would guess fifteen in the largest group, mostly solitary but
several pairs which would include adults and/or juveniles.

A pair of Lapland Longspurs are hanging out near the cornfield at the
corner of Benjamin Hill and Vanbuskirk Golf roads. Last seen on Vanbuskirk
Golf. There's also a flock of about 20 horned larks and at least 1 snow
bunting.

A gorgeous pair of BLACK SCOTERS are sitting on the lake off the Myers
marina, also just visible from Ladoga. Five WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS are nearby.
Ken and others report a late SCARLET TANAGER from Salt Point.

One pine Siskin at our feeders this morning on Hunt Hill Rd, Dryden. We have 4

Bird flotillas on Cayuga Lake
On Saturday, before the weather changed, I could make out huge flotillas of
