This coming Sunday, March 28, I will be leading a Cayuga Bird Club field trip.
We will meet at Stewart Park, east end, at 8:00 am.
Please register in advance with me (suan.y...@gmail.com). There is a
limit of six cars.
We will drive up the east shore of the lake, stopping at various
points
Yesterday afternoon the snow geese hung out on the shore of some
houses between Seneca Lake State Park and Wolffy's. Many visitors got
to see them, though parking on lawns became a problem which prompted
the police to come by to remind people to stay off private property.
I was there a couple
I have had about 20-50 red polls show up at my feeders every morning for the
past 6 weeks This AM there were 50. They have been so entertaining to watch.
I too will miss them when they leave.
But happily, my “resident” meadowlark is back!

We had NO redpolls all winter.until today. About 4pm two redpolls
appeared on our stone patio and scavenged sunflower seed under a feeder.
They did not stay long. On the other hand, two Bluebirds showed up

Every year, I look forward to the return of "my" phoebes. I just saw my first
one near the back porch, where a pair has been nesting for years under the
eaves. I hope they once again nest on my porch!
My unofficial "start of spring" has arrived.

We had one yesterday. We’ve seen two at our kitchen window feeders regularly
since the beginning of January, but that was the only one who showed up in the
last week. On the other hand, we haven’t been inside, looking out the windows
as much!

While out walking on Bundy Road this morning at 9:35 I saw and heard 5
kildeer in the agricultural fields on the south side. They were living up
to their name: Charadrius "vociferus". Marsha Kardon

I wonder when they will decide to head back north? I’ll miss them!

I still have a handful of them in Newfield, foraging on and under the feeders.
The group grew from an occasional one or two in mid-February to about 40 last
week and is now dwindling.

There are still a dozen redpolls here. They only show up in the cool mornings.
I was surprised to see them still here.
