Three points:
First, the CayugaBirds-L list serve is about birds in the general area.
A red-headed woodpecker has visited our feeder/yard in Lansing three days in a
row!
We had a pretty nice view of it last night hopping between trees, calling and
drumming frequently. Hoping it will stick around.

While it’s a bit far afield- I was in Saratoga Spring earlier this week and
there where quite a few Lightening Bugs around both Wed and Thurs evenings.
And to add a bird note- I had my FOY Blackpoll this morning at the Ithaca

There were at least 2 willow flycatchers “fitz brewing” back and forth this
morning across Dryden lake inlet just near a beaver dam. It’s very close to the
Dryden trail there. Nice close up views of solitary sandpiper same location and
teetering spotted sandpiper along the shore from my Kayak.
In know this isn’t a bird but it does fly. Last night about 2:00 am I saw a
Lightening Bug out back of our house in a brushy area. We often see them in
late June, but in May?

I was just wondering about the BB Cuckoos this morning. On Thursday I heard
one, possibly two, at the Blueberry Patch Campground in the Finger Lakes
NF. Friday, a good look at one in a tree at Lindsay-Parsons, and this
morning heard one briefly on Waterburg Rd south of Trumansburg where I live.

Welcome and
We have had both cuckoos singing ( if you can call a rain crow a
songster)for over a week. Alder and Willow flycatchers yesterday and today
and Eastern Wood Pewee three days back. Oddly, our usually dependent Green
Heron nesters are absent for the first time in years as are House Wrens.
On Sat,
Black billed cuckoo also heard singing at lower Treman state park, heard
distant singing approx from direction of the campgrounds.
Seems like a banner spring for BBCU?

The field on Carncross is just about dried up but I did find a lone snow goose
hanging out with a bunch of Canada geese.
Heard several Sandhill Cranes to the south as well, but they were not visible.

New yard bird for me (actually a house bird): a black billed cuckoo was singing
a long series of po-po-po-po outside my house in Commonland. When I got outside
with my binoculars and camera, it didn't sing again and was not found.
