Hi Eveline & All,
I am often at Allan H Treman State Marine Park, the park which includes the
large marina and the shore of Cayuga Lake. It is immediately north of Cass
Park, which belongs to the City of Ithaca and mostly has playing fields
alongside Cayuga Inlet. The border is easily
I wouldn't be surprised if these otters also were found in the Michigan Hollow
marsh. The SW outflow from the pond drains there and is secluded from people.
Yes, I have seen the otters there at this time of year last year as well (only
started bird watching at the pond in the spring of 2022).
Their home range must be at least a few square miles, so the otters at
Jennings Pond may be the same ones that hang out in the big Michigan Hollow
sedge marsh, about a mile south of the pond.
Incidentally, beaver have recently repaired the old dam that controls the
mile-long marsh, and the
Yes, the otters were lovely to watch.I know they live in the pond, or at least were released there years ago, but do you see them there often? I never have. Catharine O’NeillSent from my iPhoneOn Jan 27, 2024, at 10:21 AM, Kevin C Packard wrote:

The location where David Suggs found the Yellow-headed Blackbird is south of

Lounging, popping up through different holes in the ice. The light wasn't good
but the larger one looked as if he had something in his mouth when he came up
one time.

Hello! Am at cass park for a Saturday walk w/ my dog and am seeing a what I
believe is a raft of Redheads, with a few other waterfowl mixed in. Wishing I
had a scope with and not just my mediocre binoculars!

I realize this is a bird list and not a mammal list, but I wanted to share that
there is good viewing of a pair of river otters over at Jennings Pond in Danby.
They were out this morning lounging on the ice in the middle of the pond, ice
fishing, and seemed to be enjoying themselves.
Cheers,
We heard a tooting Saw-whet this morning around 6.It was actively tooting
for quite a while. SW corner of the basin.
