On Monday morning, I stood in the rain on the pitcher's mound at Cass Park Union Fields F8, lamenting the imminent cancellation of our kids' opening game. Then I saw a flock of 30+ AMERICAN PIPITS wandering the nearly snowless outfield and second-base area, plus a pair of Mallards waddling by. Consolation? Mockery? Reason to laugh? Reason to cringe? Now I know how it feels to be Charlie Brown.
