I know this is not the first Baltimore Oriole in the Basin, but she is the
first one I have had in my yard this season! At 6:00 PM today she was
consuming--with gusto-- sugar-water from a Hummingbird feeder. In previous
years male B.Orioles have arrived at the feeders before any females.

My first male RT Hummer arrived on 4/29, which I previously posted. Since 5/1,I
have at least a second male. I believe I also have a third male hummer, based
on the bird's behavior, which seems very uneasy, as he sometimes hovers
"nervously" while using a feeder, in comparison to the two birds I have
observed always sitting somewhat "leisurely"at a feeder for several minutes
while feeding on sugar water. Perhaps I will have to put up my third feeder
and see if I can account for 3 hummers at the same time.

Every year when they first return, the Baltimore Orioles compete with the
Hummingbirds for the "nectar", so I really should put up my third feeder.

I still have three Pine Siskins holding their own in the presence of about 15
Goldfinches. I have observed at least two pairs of Purple Finches, primarily
taking Safflower seed.
