Definitely broad winged hawks. Several more kettles. Go check out Mount
Pleasant! Plus one eagle ( could not ID species). I aM staying on my deck to
add to my yard list.

thanks all for the advice. I observed these hawks for a while to try to set
the details in my mind. I thought they were red tails, as that is the type
I see the most often, but wanted to make sure. Great spot for observing
them in different positions.

Driving by at 4:45 PM there were at least half a dozen hawks that looked
like the same species eying the pheasants. When they soared the underside
of the tails seemed to have a yellowish tinge, but the tails seemed red
above.
I would love a more expert observer to identify them for me.
Today as I sat in the staff lounge in Olin Library, it looked as though 2
Red-tailed Hawks were spending a lot of time separately and together at the
tower on McGraw Hall. Could they be working on a nest? Has anyone else noticed
this activity? I didn't have my binoculars with me.

The upper airs were contrary, but wispy clouds at lower levels were
moving in a favorable direction, so I decided to watch the West Danby
sky for a while at lunchtime. There was a modest flight of migrating
hawks, including 1 kettle of eight Broad-winged Hawks (it's not too

...and here comes another kettle of 9 Broad-winged Hawks, also a
large lanky accipiter, presumed Cooper's Hawk. Wish I could go on
watching, but I have an appointment to keep.
