Work was slow today, so I managed to quit while there was still daylight,
and even hiked to the lake before dark.  The KING EIDER was still there,
initially in the mouth of Cayuga Inlet diving close along the west side of the
white lighthouse jetty, but at dusk swimming near some COMMON MERGANSERS
east of the red lighthouse.  I only found 4 adult and 1 immature TUNDRA SWANS.
This evening they were swimming and feeding near the icy shore toward the southwest
corner of the lake.  Mid-morning I saw presumably the same quintet resting on
the ice between the swan pond and the white lighthouse.  The only other swans
I saw today was a flock of 7 Tundra/Trumpeter Swans taking off and flying northwest
from Stewart Park.  The area near the southeast corner of the lake where I'd seen
so many swans yesterday evening was full of birdless brown surf crashing onto
ice mounds this morning.
