Trying to beat the heat with an early exercise walk, I noted the following on
Mt Pleasant Road this morning:

Common Raven heard only
Horned Larks - 3 on the road, not a great look but 2 of them had only faint
head markings, the other one's were bolder. I surmise an adult with 2 young.
Not an easy bird to find this time of year.
Northern Harrier male coursing the fields sending up scolding flocks of
Red-winged Blackbirds, several of which chased the harrier long distances

By the observatory:

Eastern Kingbird family - 2 adults, 2 young
Numerous Barn Swallows adults and young. I got to 40 overhead at the barns in
the "dip" then gave up the count when they all dispersed.
A few Tree Swallows
Straggling flock of Bobolinks, landing silently in the switchgrass field just
east of the observatory, where they promptly disappeared from view.

Keep cool everyone.
