I stopped by Stewart Park after lunch, on the way to do errands. I immediately
noticed a Red-tailed Hawk on the ice, working over the bloody carcass of what
appeared to have been a Mallard. Just then a Peregrine dove on the hawk and put
it up, then chased it away and into the lakeside willows. The Peregrine then
returned to the carcass and proceeded to feed.

The lone Double-crested Cormorant continued on the Pile Cluster, looking very
out--of-place.

I lsearched for but could not find any Pied-billed Grebes at the south end of
the lake but eventually turned one up at the yacht club - another first-of-year
bird.
