There was at least one Prairie Warbler at the Baldwin Tract (Park
Preserve South) on Irish Settlement Road yesterday (May 3). Heard one
singing from private land north of the preserve and later saw one in
the pines at the preserve. Also had Magnolia Warbler, Blue-headed

: [cayugabirds-l] Prairie Warbler???
Hi Karen,
Field Sparrow can give that impression, because its song too is delivered in
accelerando, sometimes even with a slight rise in pitch. If you have the
Audubon Birds app, you can compare Track #3 for both species to see what I mean.

I heard the ascending sound of what I think is a prairie warbler this morning,
but it seems early. Is there a bird that has a similar song to a prairie
warbler?

Hi Betsy,
I believe it is more than a generic "Prairie Warblers" but do believe they have

territorial fighting among neotrops is, in my opinion, a direct reflection of
greatly reduced populations thanks to all the natural a
So quickly time flies, and spring turns to summer. More and more warblers are
feeding nestlings and even fledglings now. Some birds have already begun their

This morning I biked over to Stewart Park on the Cayuga Waterfront Trail. My
goal was to refind Palm Warbler and Spotted Sandpiper - along with any other
new migrants - for my fossil-fuel-free list. Before I even got to the Farmer's
Market I met that goal when a SPOTTED SANDPIPER flew along the

I had a little time late this morning to walk into the Lindsay-
Parson's Preserve. I found a number of birds already reported by
others in the past few days. The only addition to that list wass a
