Hope to see you here! ****************************************** Monday, February 22, 2010, 7:30 PM
Richard Primack Professor of Biology Boston University "The impact of a warming world on the plants and birds of Thoreau's Concord" Richard will discuss the impact of climate change on the flowering times of plants and the spring arrival of birds in Massachusetts with an emphasis on ecological mismatches among species in the timing of activity caused by climate change. The main geographical focus is Concord, Massachusetts, due to the availability of extensive flowering records kept by Henry David Thoreau and later naturalists. He will talk about how his lab is using Concord as a living laboratory to determine the effects of climate change, invasive species, and land use changes on the population dynamics of plants and bird species. Seminars typically begin at 7:30 P.M. (doors open at 7:00) in the Visitors’ Center Auditorium; nights with Cayuga Bird Club meetings, the seminars tend to start closer to 8:00 P.M., and are preceded by Club business. As always, admission is free and open to all.
