After seeing Jay's post of two Western Grebes up the lake
Dave and I scanned the south end of the lake from 11:00.
The viewing conditions were perfect for most of our time. Dave took the west
shore and I the east. Birds were what Kevin has reported minus the Ruddy Duck.
No Grebes of any type that
I long scan at East Shore and Stewart parks this morning turned up no grebes. I
did have two RED-THROATED LOONS swimming together and a couple more COMMON
LOONS far to the northwest.
Lots of COMMON GOLDENEYE, COMMON MERGANSERS, a few BUFFLEHEAD, a single male
RUDDY DUCK, 2 GADWALL, 6 AMERICAN W
I biked to Stewart Park this afternoon to look at gulls, and made sure I arrived before sundown this time, but found the sunshine made for extra contrast and shadow, which wasn't necessarily helpful. The lake was calm, but I missed several birds which Tim Lenz, whom I met as I was leaving, saw. C

I stopped by Stewart Park in the early afternoon and enjoyed the large numbers
of birds along the calm and balmy lakeshore. Highlights were a flock of 25-30
BUFFLEHEAD, 14 RUDDY DUCKS, a single RED-BREASTED MERGANSER in the inlet, plus
2 MOCKINGBIRDS and a calling WINTER WREN at the
Inspired by Tim Lenz' report of 2 separate Black Scoters from East Shore Park, I biked over to Stewart Park. Indeed the southern BLACK SCOTER with the Aythya flock was visible. I hope it is still there, because it's a neat bird, neither the adult male with a yellow knob, nor the juvenile or femal
My wife and I stopped by Stewart Park on the way home from the
library, at about 2p. It was a good day for ducks.
1 Pied-Billed Grebe
2 Buffleheads
A small flock of American Coots
2 Shovelers
Umpteen Bazillion Canadian Geese
A similar quantity of Mallards
But no Brants! Maybe it says something
