I LOVE THIS!!! Going to try it myself, maybe with starlings too?

Tonight I began listening to a Mockingbird while I had Merlin on. As the
bird went through its repertoire, merlin told me I was listening to a
Mockingbird, a Mallard and a kestrel. I had to leave, but it was a fun and
informative exercise and worth trying again again when I have more time.

I just watched a pair of Northern mockingbirds go through their mating
dance/ritual including the aerial part and then end up on the ground where they
mated.
Quite a few bluebirds right around my house in the last week and finally robins
near my house, too. I've seen plenty of both in the last

We have a pair or two of mockingbirds at our place, pretty much year round. I
find it curious that we have one vocalizing pretty steadily all day long. Any
explanation for such persistent vocalizing this time of the year?
And, I'd appreciate it if some of you would send some siskins and evenin
The mockingbird surprised me with a visit again. It was here eating
Winterberries. I’m glad I have 5 bushes covered with them. There could be an
interesting war over the berries this summer. I’ve had robins and bluebirds
fighting over them before. Many years ago I had a pair of mockers nest
For me it was an exciting morning. I spotted a red fox out back so I headed to
the sunroom to see if I could watch him. He ended up hunting for rodents
around my feeder. While out there I looked to see what birds were there. It
was about 6:45. I get the most birds early. Anyway, a Mockingb
As I just happened to glance out our kitchen window this morning, a new
yard bird popped in and landed on our clothesline pole -- MOCKINGBIRD!
And I do mean popped in, as it was here for about 5 seconds before
departing. We haven't had a mockingbird in our yard since 2012.

We went to Sampson State Park again today where we heard a mockingbird
singing a full repertoire of songs from apparently across the large
field judging by the quality of the sound and the volume. Except then I
saw the bird, only about 50' away - he was singing in a full but very
quiet voice,
Hi all,
There has been a mockingbird singing away at the East Hill Plaza on Ellis
Hollow Rd, Ithaca for the past week. He is there today in full song. He likes
to sing from the evergreens to the west of Burger King. He must think it's
spring!

A Mockingbird just flew onto our "hawk perch". First one here in about a

Just saw my first Mockingbird of the year in its usual area near the top of
the hill on Burns Road in Brooktondale. Also heard my first Cardinal song
near my yard on this 51-degree morning.

We've been watching our nestling bluebirds for the last 3 wks or so. It's just
our luck that they should fledge and abandon the nest box in the few days we
were away and couldn't witness it.

The little ones fledged about 4 days ago, and the aggressive behavior has
lessened. However, they are not only feeding the fledglings, they have a new
nest with new eggs already.

We have 3 mockingbird nestlings in a low shrub who look to be a few days from
fledging. When anyone walks through the yard the parents go on the extreme
defense and come out of nowhere to scare off the perceived predators. In past
years they just make a fuss and come in close, but this year the
This afternoon I went to the cornfields on Cayuga View Rd, TBurg to
photograph the hundreds of crows. In a small tree next to the road there was
a MOCKINGBIRD, the first I have seen this winter. (Well, maybe the second.).
Further south on the road were 4 HORNED LARKS. But the crows were the main

Good question. I have a Mockingbird who serenades me quite often and he sings
many other birds songs. He's fooled me in early spring when I thought I had a

hear an answer to Richard's question as well. My guess is
We have a resident mocking bird who sits in our yard and sings on and on
with all sorts of peeps and mutters. Question: Does the mockingbird have a
song that is unique to itself, or does it only borrow from others?

Anne in the store just told me a Northern Mockingbird was here yesterday
morning--I am looking for it today but so far no luck.
Still have Hooded Merganzers, Redpolls, Pine Siskins, Song Sparrows,
White-throated Sparrows, and more.

Had our resident Mockingbird check out the rose hips out back, but the sun
wasn't on them yet so it quickly flew to a tree branch in the sun. I'm finally
getting a good number of birds at the feeders. I had 18 Mourning Doves all

Hi everyone,
Here are my e-bird lists from some birding Friday morning. Highlights included

The MOCKINGBIRD that's been hanging around Hospicare but eluded me on the
Christmas Count is back today. Also had a RAVEN croaking and honking (I guess
"cronking", as read in an earlier post, is the perfect word) overhead as I took
my lunchtime walk.
