The only time I have seen loons in large groups on Cayuga Lake is during
migration, but that wouldn't happen till at least the end of October or early
November.
We can sometimes see a hundred or more spread out on the lake then.

I agree with Asher and think what you saw were almost certainly Cormorants.
They are both fishing birds, diving for their meals like Loons do, and they
look very similar. I know they hang out in the area you identified, in a
couple of tall trees on the inlet, and also in a deadfall tree nearb
We were at Cass Park yesterday. Cormorants flying everywhere.

Are you sure they were NOT Double-crested Cormorants? They are plentiful in
that area.

There were numerous loons off Elm Beach Road in Ovid this afternoon, as
well. I would guess fifteen in the largest group, mostly solitary but
several pairs which would include adults and/or juveniles.

Hi.
I made a brief stop there about 3 pm yesterday on my way to Ithaca and
saw 3 common loons (didn't stay long)(and only had binocs).
Saw an additional 2 at Sheldrake point, further up the lake.
I plan to return after this front passes thru and get there around sunrise.
Perhaps time could have
Ahoy bird watchers,
An environmentally minded ecologically sensitive professional videographer
would very much like to get footage of young eagles- on Lake Ontario or
elsewhere in Rochester Buffalo area.
Getting the youngsters as they learn and perfect soaring and flying would
be totally cool.
I just saw 4 C. LOONS all at once in my field of view (binocs) here at the
lake. Then they were calling a lot, standing up and flapping wings, diving and
coming up farther away.

I saw the same birds as Meena at Sheldrake this afternoon around two and
then continued north. Just south of Cayuga Park there were several hundred
noisy Tundra Swans accompanied by an elongated raft of countless Canada
Geese and an isolated group of 10 Common Loons fishing.
We took a circuitous r
50+ loons in southbound flight over the Danby State Forest from 6:30-7AM.

I also saw three very high-flying LOONS flying south over Hospicare (E. King
