$275 will buy you the NFR kit (checkout Cisco marketplace) that comes with
everything you need and more with all licenses you will not even need. If one
is preparing for the CCIE, that is a small price compare to other items that
you will/must have bought for your lab.

You will get that error if the processor in the host ESX server is
non-Intel, i.e., AMD. This is rumored to be fixed in a revision of 7.1
code which is due out this summer.
