You can convert the .png files to .bmp file using convert program (part of
Imagemagick). Then you can combine .bmp files
to make .avi file using AVI creator (windows program freeware). This avi
file can be used directly in MS power point.

I have used pretty much the same options for mencoder as you.
mencoder "mf://myfile*.*[0-9].png" -mf fps=18 -o mymovie.mpg -ovc lavc
-lavcopts vcodec=msmpeg4v2:vbitrate=9000
(and yes, 18fps is on the slow side, but in my opinion sufficient)

http://www.gromada.com/videomach.html
You can try it for free for a limited period, but after that you may well think
it is worth the 25 dollars or so...
