Dear all,

Instruct-ERIC invites applications for glycan analysis, made available through
its partner laboratory at the Institute of Chemistry at the Slovak Academy of
Sciences (SAS). Successful proposals submitted before 30 September will receive
funding to cover the cost of instrument access.

Glycosylation is an essential post-translational modification of proteins that
affects their function, folding, biological activity and interactions. As such,
knowledge of glycosylation is crucial for the development of biopharmacological
products and recombinant proteins expressed by non-native hosts. The Institute
of Chemistry (SAS) offers expertise in analysing the structure, conformation,
and dynamics of mono-, oligo- and poly-saccharides, their derivatives and
glycoconjugates, as well as in weak intermolecular interactions between
proteins and carbohydrate molecules.

All technology is available remotely, so that users will be able to post their
samples to the laboratory, without the need for travel. A full analytical
report will be provided, tailored to the individual requirements for each
sample.

What technology is available?

High-resolution NMR (1D, 2D), mass spectrometry (including determination of the
intact glycoprotein mass, N-glycan profiling and mapping protein
N-glycosylation sites), infrared and Raman spectroscopy, surface plasmon
resonance, atomic force microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry and RTG
diffractometry. More details.

The Institute also provides expertise in the theoretical analysis of
carbohydrate structures by quantum-chemical approaches, such as density
functional methods.

Who can apply?

Pre- and post-doctoral researchers based in Instruct-ERIC and Instruct-ULTRA
participating countries: Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France,
Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Portugal,
Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, UK, as well as all EMBL researchers.

When can I apply?

We advise that applicants apply as soon as possible. The first approvals will
be made on 30 August 2020, and the second on 30 September 2020. Samples must be
received within one month of award, and all analysis will be completed by 30
November 2020.

How do I apply?

Once you have registered for an ARIA account
(https://instruct-eric.eu/register/?t=instructeric), visit the Open Call page
(https://instruct-eric.eu/submit-call/glycan-analysis-) to submit a short
research proposal. All proposals will be subject to light touch peer review,
and awards made based on the quality of the science. Funding will be available
to cover instrument access.
