Ed, Is there any chance that you might have ethylene glycol present in the condition? If so, that might work. Sincerely, Harkewal Singh On Jul 7, 2013, at 3:21 PM, Edward A. Berry wrote: > In a structure I'm refining, there are a couple of oblong blobs associated > with carboxylates. > (

Dear Andre, We had a similar case where the crystals were bigger and diffraction was lousy. Our standard dehydration approaches were not very successful. I suggest reading this - Post-crystallization treatments for improving diffraction quality of protein crystals. Heras B

The best way to ascertain whether you have any meaningful crystal is diffraction. However, in the past, I have collected data from crystals that did not look "very sharp" or looked kind of oval in shape. To manage or fine tune your crystallization trials you can either try microbatch (under oil

In cases like this, I keep FAD around during all steps starting from cell lysis, purification, dialysis and even crystallization. In one case we added FAD to protein such that the protein: FAD ratio was 1 prior to setting up crystallization trials. Hope that helps. Harkewal Sent from my iPad
