Dear all,

Please find below the advertisement for a PhD position in our research group:

PhD position in Structural Biology at JGU/IMB Mainz, Germany
A PhD position is available in the group of Eva Wolf at the Johannes Gutenberg
University
(JGU) and the Institute of Molecular Biology (IMB) in Mainz, Germany. Research
in the Wolf
group is focused on the structural, biochemical and biophysical analysis of
proteins involved
in circadian (day-time dependent) regulation (e.g. Czarna et al, Cell 2013;
Schmalen et al,
Cell 2014) and in genome maintenance (e.g. Witosch et al, NAR 2014).
To elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying circadian gene regulation and
circadian
physiology, the PhD student will apply a wide range of techniques including
3D-structural
analyses (e.g. X-ray crystallography, Cryo-EM, SAXS, Crosslink-MS), biochemical
and
biophysical protein interaction studies as well as UV/VIS spectroscopy. To
produce highly
pure proteins and protein complexes for these applications, she/he will perform
cloning,
recombinant protein expression (E.coli, insect cells) and protein purification
using FPLC
systems. Within collaborations, she/he will also analyze clock protein
interactions and protein
functions in cell-based approaches and in in vivo systems. Candidates with a
strong interest
in structural biology and protein biochemistry combined with a significant
previous exposure
to these research areas during their master education are encouraged to apply.
The prospective PhD student will be affiliated with IMB’s International PhD
program (IPP)
and must have a good command of English. PhD candidates must officially apply
via the
International PhD Programme (IPP,
www.imb-mainz.de/students-postdocs/international-phd-programme<http://www.imb-mainz.de/students-postdocs/international-phd-programme>).
The deadline for registration at the IPP is May 26th 2020. Informal inquiries
should be addressed
to Eva Wolf (evawo...@uni-mainz.de<mailto:evawo...@uni-mainz.de>).

With best regards,

Eva Wolf
