Prof. Adnane Achour and the adjacent laboratory of Prof. Mats Wahlgren at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. The candidate should be a good team-player. She/he will be responsible for the determination of the three-dimensional structure of proteins that are involved in cytoadherence and sequestration of P. falciparum-infected erythrocytes. The prime targets of this project are several domains of the PfEMP1 variant antigen. Responsibilities will include protein expression/purification, biophysical characterization of proteins and determination of crystal structures, including crystallization, synchrotron data collection and structure determination. Experience in cloning and protein purification is a plus.
