DESCRIPTION/REQUIREMENTS: A postdoctoral position is available for a
highly motivated individual for a period of two years within the
laboratory of Assoc. Prof. Adnane Achour and the adjacent laboratory of
Prof. Mats Wahlgren at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden.
The candidate should be a good team-player. She/he will be responsible
for the determination of the three-dimensional structure of proteins
that are involved in cytoadherence and sequestration of P.
falciparum-infected erythrocytes. The prime targets of this project are
several domains of the PfEMP1 variant antigen. Responsibilities will
include protein expression/purification, biophysical characterization of
proteins and determination of crystal structures, including
crystallization, synchrotron data collection and structure
determination. Experience in cloning and protein purification is a plus.
