Position Description: A post-doctoral position is immediately available for highly motivated, hard-working candidates to join Dr. Jikui Song’s group in the Department of Biochemistry at University of California, Riverside. Dr. Song’s research group employs collaborative and multidisciplinary approaches to investigate mechanistic basis of cancer epigenetics, in particular chromatin modifications that are essential for gene regulation and development. We are also exploring the mechanistic basis and regulatory mechanisms of viral replication, toward identification of effective therapeutical strategies against viral infection. The project will involve structural and dynamic characterization of macromolecular complexes using cryo-EM, X-ray crystallography, single-molecule FRET and other biochemical/biophysical approaches. Examples for recent publications include Zhang et al. Nature (2018) 554:387-391, Wang et al. Nat. Struct. Mol. Biol. (2020) 27: 875-885, Gao et al. Nat. Commun. (2020) 11:3355, and Ren et al. Nat. Commun. (2021) 12:2490.
Research Environment: The NIH-funded research in the Song lab aims to uncover the fundamental principles underlying epigenetic regulation and pathogen-host interaction. The successful candidates will have extensive opportunities for multiple collaborations with scientists at UC Riverside and worldwide. UC Riverside is located at the metropolitan area of Los Angeles. Such an environment allows one to have a good balance of life and science. Qualification and Experience: Successful candidates will have a recent PhD in structural biology, biophysics or other related fields, with extensive experience in protein production, biochemical characterization and structural analysis. Additional background in cryo-EM is highly desirable. Applications will be reviewed as they are received. The position will remain open until filled. Postdoctoral salary will be commensurate with prior research experience and qualifications. Application: Interested applicants should send curriculum vitae, expected starting date, brief summary of previous research experience, and contact information of 2-3 references as one single PDF file to Jikui Song, Ph.D. Department of Biochemistry, University of California, Riverside, CA 92521 (Email: jikui.s...@ucr.edu).
