We are seeking a postdoctoral fellow to join the Structural Biochemistry lab at the Department of Chemistry-BMC, Uppsala University, Uppsala, Sweden:
Postdoctoral research fellow in Structural Biochemistry Duties Structural and functional characterization of enzymes involved in uracil and thymine degradation and of proteins involved in pathway regulation Entry requirements A person is eligible for a position as postdoctoral research fellow if he or she obtained a PhD after 2010 at an academic institution other than Uppsala University. We are seeking a motivated researcher to join an ongoing research project studying the function, structure, evolutionary adaptation and regulation of enzymes involved in two distinct pathways of pyrimidine degradation. The experiments will involve a broad range of techniques, such as protein expression/purification, site-directed mutagenesis, enzyme kinetics, interaction analysis, structure determination by X-ray crystallography and/or cryo-electron microscopy, and computational biochemistry. The ideal candidate will hold a recently awarded Ph.D. in biochemistry, biological sciences or a related discipline. Applicants should have a background in biochemistry or protein chemistry, and possess experience with cloning and protein expression/purification techniques. Biochemists who would like to learn structural biology are encouraged to apply. Previous experience in bioinformatics, protein crystallography, cryo-EM, or mammalian cell culturing is a plus. Candidates that are highly motivated, creative, excellent team players, and with a good track record with at least two publication as first author are expected. This project is fully funded via a fellowship stipend for 2 years and also welcomes international exchange scholars to apply. Application process An employment application must contain the following documents in English: * A personal letter with a short description of yourself and the reasons why you are interested in the position * A complete curriculum vitae, including the date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work * A complete list of publications * A summary of current work & previous experiences (no more than one page) * Authorized copies of degrees and diplomas. * Names and contact details of at least two scientists that have offered to act as references for you must also be included, with a clear indication of their relationship to you. * Verification from the thesis defence committee or the equivalent (only if the thesis defence is scheduled within three months after the application deadline) The application is to be submitted via email to Doreen.Dobritzsch at kemi.uu.se latest on December 15, 2018. The research program in biochemistry covers basic and applied research that spans a wide area, including enzymology, molecular cell biology, biophysics, structural biology, bioorganic synthesis and computer-based modeling. Many projects are run in collaboration with international research groups and in close cooperation with industry.
