NEC ND-3540A and 16x DVD burns?

Hello, I just got a new NEC ND-3540A writer and some Verbatim 16x DVD+R media. I can't seem to write them at 16x in Linux though, cdrecord-ProDVD offers 6x as maximum and even that starts off at 4x for the first 800 MB or so and then accelerates to 6x. I notice with -prcap (output follows) the ma
