Does anyone know why my Pionneer DVR-109 and my HP DVD writer report
different speed for the same 8x DVD ??
Pionner reports 4x and 2x speeds whereas HP reports 8x and 4x.

Back in August, I've burned with k3b and a pioneer dvdr109 some prodye
DVD that I cannot read anymore (although I did verify them with k3b).
Anyway, dvd+rw-mediainfo reports:
$ dvd+rw-mediainfo /dev/hdc

Following the problems I got with Moviestyles DVD+R, I've tried
cdrecord-pro.
In dummy mode everything looks fine. But, dvd-record failed to write
in readl mode: I ended with a mountable dvd with no data ?!?!?!

I'm trying to growisofs burn Moviestyle dvds with mixed results. I've
already used another brand of DVD (prodye) without a problem. I was
ready to dismiss the Moviestyle dvd as junk, but the tests I ran with
these DVDs shows that the problem is not so clear-cut.
