There was a very interesting essay in the Washington Post yesterday for
anyone interested in the world's perceptions of American policy. The author
is Francis Fukuyama, who some of you may remember for his previous works
'The End of History' and 'The Last Man'. In the essay, he talks about the
differences between perceptions of the legitimacy of power in the US and
abroad, and how they relate to the US's current political situation. Really
got me thinking about what a democracy is, and why the word means so much to
so many. Good read:
