godaddy is one of those that has been shown to grab the domains as
they are looked up.
(godaddy disputes it, but dozens of separate tests have shown that
doing a search on their site will invariably make the domain
unavailable.)
I _was_ using them until we lost a few in this manner.

Ive never had the problem, and ive gone back weeks later to get domains I
did research on.
But if youve had it happen, then I cant argue with you.

Network Solutions is the _main_ culprit. Actually grabbing domains
from _other_ registrars' whois lookups.
