I really wish we could have just holed up for two weeks straight, taught,
coded, and eaten great food, but _some_ of the students had the _absolute
audacity_ to mention the fact that they had jobs, and that they would be
fired if they didn't show up Monday morning!

What matters but code, Judith? It's all about the code. We are purified by
the code.

Seriously, each and every student was great, and they were certainly
challenged day and night. Lots of people stayed until midnight on Thursday
to get some extra time in on the class project I assigned. Very
challenging, with not enough time to finish it. I'm going to change the
class project for the next Bootcamp to make it barely able to be
accomplished during the alloted time (I am evil).

Just so everyone knows, the final course offerings we are going to provide
before Q2 2002 are as follows. Each class will be a five-day, sixty-hour
affair with all three meals, breaks, and snacks provided, just like the
Bootcamp:

ADVANCED BOOTCAMP FOR COLDFUSION 5, DATABASE, AND JAVASCRIPT

We are moving the Data-Driven Flash portion of the curriculum to the new
Advanced Web Design for ColdFusion Developers course, and spending that time
slot on remaining topics (we need all the time we can get). This is the
starting course for the entire regimen, and you must already be a pretty
good developer to keep up.

ADVANCED DATABASE DEVELOPMENT FOR COLDFUSION 5

This expands the current four-day, 48-hour course into a full five days and
sixty hours. We're adding more time on advanced SQL exercises and adding
Load Testing to the course, plus we are adding a Class Project similar to
what we do in the Bootcamp. Both SQL Server and Oracle 8i are taught at the
advanced level (Oracle packages returning multiple result sets, etc).

ADVANCED SCALABILITY WITH COLDFUSION 5

Each student will have his own network of three computers: two clustered
ColdFusion servers, and one dedicated database server. Every possible
performance enhancing trick, tip, technique, and engineering principle
across all layers of the architecture will be explored, and students will
spend lots of time changing configurations, expanding RAM, re-engineering
code, tweaking, load testing, and understanding exactly how to engineer a
highly scalable ColdFusion application. You will start with everything
running from one machine, then see the Load Test results as you migrate
services across machines and learn what the actual "Scaling Points" of your
scaling plan are. No more just indiscriminately throwing money at the
problem!

ADVANCED WEB DESIGN FOR COLDFUSION DEVELOPERS

One thing many good developers suck at is design, which is unfortunate
because that is all the client and his customers see (and often how the
client decides who gets the development project). Effective use of color
and light, recognition theory versus human interface design, and other
important principles will be combined with a little lecture and tons of
exercises in Freehand, Fireworks, Data-Driven Flash, Javascript, and
advanced HTML and DHTML tricks and techniques you probably didn't know
existed. You will be able to make all that fancy stuff that right now you
look at and go "Wow, I wish I could do that!" The artistic portion of this
course will be taught by a very accomplished professional computer artist
and photographer with decades of experience. The programming portion will
be taught by David and I.

JAVA FOR COLDFUSION DEVELOPERS

Yeah, it's coming, and you're going to have to deal with it sooner or later.
Wait until later and you'll play catch-up for the rest of your life; learn
it now and you'll always be ahead of the game. This Java course plays off
what you already know in ColdFusion, and brings you into the world of Object
Oriented Programming. You'll create Java applets, servlets, and CFX tags
that integrate with your ColdFusion applications, and get a real world
understanding of how Java fits into your development environment.

-------------

There are no other courses like these anywhere on Earth.

The entire reason why we're doing this is because we were told it couldn't
be done, and I have never lost a single challenge of any kind at any time in
my entire life. Profit or not, we WILL provide these courses to those who
are willing to really buckle down and learn the hard way. As long as there
are "ColdFusion Marines" out there, Gunnery Sergeant Churvis will be their
Drill Instructor. Oooo-RAH!

Respectfully,

Adam Phillip Churvis
