I love Casablanca, too. Watch it just about every time it's on.
If memory serves me correctly, Casablanca and many other films of that time
were originally filmed at an aspect ratio that was just a bit "wider" than a
standard TV. T
a lot of older movies were theeatrically released in 1.33:1 aspect ratio.
TV originally was formatted the same as movies.
Movies went to wide-screen 1.67:1 or 2.33:1 after tv became popular, to differentiate the format.
