Nothing at all if you either don't care about cross-browser
compatability or don't mind going bald.

I've recently made the switch from Mozilla to Firefox. I'm finding the
little differences very annoying but I'm a flexible man. I'm reading
through the help files etc and viewing the forums at moillazine.org.

Do you mean strict as opposed to transitional or do you mean strict as
"correct"? You can use Transitional and still get the benefit of the
better standards rendering. We have to do that here since we have site
editors that non-techies use which deprecated tags.
But if you've got complete code con

Without a doctype it's a rendering free-for-all. Damn the standards.

aren't, but without that trying to do standards based development is
like trying to snowboard in Tahiti. And the default DTDs in
CFStudio/Homesite+ are wrong.
Odds are that the problems are more in IE6. The really whacked thing
