There are a number of different firearms that use the .40 s&w cartridge.
The primary weapon, in law enforcement use, would be the Glock 22 and 23.
In a rifle, there are a number of different manufacturers and configurations
ranging from the CX4 Storm to the Kel-Tec sub2000 and even AR-15

Most modern assault rifles use a .225 cal round. Older ones use a
7.62 NATO round (about a 303 cal). If I remember right a law
enforcement version of the Glock uses the .40 cal round. A short
stubby pistol round.
