I don't think they are hot-swappable, but I believe it will rebuild a
mirrored drive if you swap one for a clean one.

Keep us posted on what you come up with. I'm looking for one before
too long (reads: whenever) myself.
Speaking of, I'm going to go bust a god damn blog ent

I don't see why not. I'm just saying that the Drobo, cool as it is,
isn't something you can just plug into a network and go. The DNS-323,
while somewhat less cool, is networked out of the gate.

Interesting. I just took a look at it but in my initial look I couldn't
tell if it allows hot swapping of drives. The thing I like about Drobo
is, (from what I have seen) it doesn't require any UI to operate. You
literally just plug drives in and out willy nilly as needed and it
dynamically

Dunno, my airport extreme has a usb port that I've attached an external drive
to. It works great, an extra 30
They look badass, but they're expensive, and not a NAS. It's USB only.
You could certainly use it as an external drive on a fileserver or
something, but

That's a USB drive, yuck, so 2007 :-) Makes a lot of sense for one computer
though.
I want to get back to just having a power cord...

Yes. It's not as feature-rich an FTP server as FileZilla or another
dedicated piece of software, but you can give specific users rights
(read only or read/write) to specific directories. You can also add
users in groups, but the interface is a little clunky.
I have each of the servers set up
