You could take one of those small USB storage devices (like 64 or 256 meg) and embed it in a small bear with the USB cable hanging out.  You can then fill the device with pictures or music for your friend. then she'd have a cuddly little "hard drive" with memories on it. It'd be really easy - no

Turn it into a hub.  Grab a Linksys hub from somewhere, and take it apart.  Run the connectors that make the ACK LED's blink from the built in lights to a couple of LED's you put in the teddy bear's eyes.  Then, every time network traffic goes through the bear, it blinks at you demonically. -
