Sounds like you're dealing with Interland!

I feel your pain.  I had to deal with a situation like that.  Even over a
T1, it took several minutes.  It would be no big deal if you were able to
see only your own database.  I'd do it for my clients if I knew how to do
that.

So long as the disks are fast and there's TONS of memory (like over 1GB) on
the server, then I think a SQL server could probably handle a hundred
databases - no problem.  But 600 is REALLY pushing the limits.  I wouldn't
even put that many websites on a single box!

I think if you keep it below 50 db's, you'll be just fine.  But on the other
hand, if any of those db's are creating extreme traffic, it will affect all
the others.  It only takes one bad programmer to screw it up for everyone on
the whole server.
