Actually, it's not the cell phone per se that's the
problem. Some studies have shown that hands-free
headsets do not significantly reduce the accident rate.
It's the conversation itself that takes enough attention
away from the driving to cause the accident

I almost want to say "too bad"
For someone to risk killing others because they can't be
bothered to pay attention to their driving is awful.

Since I have two radios in my car (one AM/FM and one Amateur Radio) I
can say that you learn to keep focused on the road while listening and
be cautious when talking... what bothers me is when the cop in the car
next to you is in an obvious argument with someone on a handheld cellphone.
It's a
But it doesn't account for near the number of accidents as eating, the
radio, talking to kids in the car, etc etc. I'll try and find the
numbers for ya.

Actually if you search the web for studies on cell phones and driving you
will find that folks ability to drive is drastically reduced by using a cell
phone, even hands free.

Most freeways I've been on move so slowly that you could play musical chairs

I would also imagine that people reading e-mail on a blackberry or other
wireless e-mail device can be dangerous also.
