It's not a matter of money -- her husband commutes to Los Alamos by plane. I
think it's a matter of the husband. As it happened she came to my house last
night, I didn't go to hers, and all she knows is that it's a Mac classic. A
hardware upgrade is not in the picture. I'm still trying to get OS de
You could always try to convince her to upgrade to a Mac mini, the cheapest one
they have is $499. That would solve all of her problems, and she could even get
a payment plan on it.

If she wants, I have an install CD of Mac OS 9. I had a Powerbook G3 that was
destroyed by Katrina, but that was just the hardware. I have to software at
home still (in a box somewhere) and it is looking for a good home. It is just
the OS 9 CD and an upgrade CD to 9.2 I think.

nope, was rather boggled that she was really right about what was happening
and hadn't slept for a couple of days when I was over there. I can take a
look for that the next time I go back. I'll try the netscape version though,
thanks. Do you remember the thing I am talking about with the data fork?
If it is OS 8 then she is basically hosed.
IIRC that is roughly the equivalent of win95, un supported, and
unusable.
Firefox and Safari will only run on OSX. IE for the Mac is unusable; MS
hasn't supported it in years. Looks like there is a version of Netscape,
still fairly old, but will run on O
addendum to this, can't find a safari download earlier than X either
