Once you get the Craig's search just right, you can also save searches
as an RSS feed using the link at the bottom of the page. Drop it
right into your RSS reader and you can read search results right in
your RSS reader.
I find this particularly good for breaking down a search by

thank you both!
I know the area enough to be able to do a quick compare and contrast between
say Bonny Doon and Nob Hill and Berkeley, but the sort of thing I am looking
for could *conceivably* turn up in any of them (tho I'd guess it's more
unlikely in downtwn SF itself...)
I will check, Mauree

One thing I do is use google alerts. I have it config'd for
"+craigslist +california +whatever" and there's obviously variation o
Click on any of the sub areas. East Bay, etc..then select sublet. On
the far left of the tabs at the top it says All SF Bay Area. Click
that.

It does have rentals, but I'm not sure it pulls Craigs data. Would
definitely help you cross reference public transportation though...

hmm if so I missed it when I was playing with that last week. But thanks! I
take a look at that. That would be cool, cause even if they often get the
exact addresses wrong, it still would tell me what the neighborhood looks
like...

I kinda know the neighborhoods a little. But again, location is not my
primary criterion; I'm looking for someplace with parking that is not too
expensive or too small and preferably is near public transportation. That's
possible but kinda hard to find and if I have to say yeah and it should be

By the way, you might want to use Google Maps for your Search.
Choose "More > Real Estate"
Looks like it includes rentals, and I'll bet it also pulls listings
from Craigs already.

Yeah, that's a pet peeve of mine on alot of sites where you are
searching by location. Unless you know the area, listing the names of
neighborhoods is useless. I guess the most useless example is when
someone is looking to move ***into*** an area where they are almost
certainly not going to alre

Indeed, their whole mantra is to deal locally and engage with people close
to you. One reason is to prevent fraud, but I think there is a higher
social calling in that as well to focus on the community in which you live.

eyeroll. I wanted to look for a sublet somewhere in the bay area. It made me
choose moutain view, santa cruz, oakland, etc. How the hell do I know?
Location not an issue just now and especially not for a sublet.
