I only use Enterprise and they've only ever put a hold equal to one day's
rental for me.

eh. There are uses for credit imho. Of course, I keep mine mostly paid
off so that may be the difference.

I'm right behind you JJ. Slowly getting rid of all but one card. Rental car
peeps still don't debit cards and personally I hate carrying cash. :)

Actually 90% of the rental car places take debit cards, they will just
do a $350 authorization... which if you notice is the exact same thing
they do to credit cards.

a largish
activation fee I hadn't paid attention to, which is how you can be
past due on a card you haven't received yet
All in all not reassuring for the future, but hell, it will make an
emergency backup I guess.

No. Household Bank is a fairly large credit card backer/provider (and,
later, loans including a buyout of Beneficial) who was bought by HSBC in
order for the parent company to gain entry into the US CC market. They
specialize in Sub-prime cards. Household was all American support.
HSBC
it is. Though I don't think it's actually a bank. It seems to mostly
be an offshore customer service company that generates
incomprehensible but apparently irrelevant responses to email.
I have been trying to activate a card I (regrettably) signed up for in
*February.* Since February. Silly me.
