A Winnipeg man had quite a personal encounter with a black bear that
dragged him out of an outhouse in a northwestern Ontario campsite over
the weekend.

Really messed up. I was planning on fishing in the area later in the
summer. You'd really have thought that the smell of the outhouse alone
would have been a deterrent.

Very rare for a black bear to act so aggressively. I'll be fishing at a
remote fly in lake in Canada in July, and we joke about watching for bears
as we head to the outhouse.i'll be taking it a BIT more seriously this
go round!

I know the area. The Sioux Lookout area basically has fishing lakes,
tourists, reservations, fish and bears.
It also depends on where in Canada you are. It was probably a younger
bear just out of its first hibernation and real stupid.

We actually drive all the way from Kansas City to Sioux Lookout. From there
we fly in to here:

It's the only cabin on the lake, and we fill it upwhich means we have
what a drive. I think it would be easier to fly into Winnipeg, rent a
car then drive the 7 hours or so. Or better yet fly from Winnipeg to
either Sioux Lookout or Red Lake. Basic rule I find though in the
area, don't go into the Sioux Lookout bars on the 2nd and last Friday
of the month - the
My in-laws moved to Winnipeg 2 years ago. Really need to take a trip
up there to see them. Definitely looking forward to getting out and
about around the area once we do.

There are some events that you should go for, like the Folk Festival,
or folklorama in the summer. There's also the usual places, museums,
Assiniboine Park, the Forks, Exchange district etc.
Generally its a pretty good city. I have a lot of friends and family
still there.
