My 2.5 year old has already gone once. The suggested age here is sometime in
the second year. He didn't actually get his teeth cleaned or anything. But,
he got introduced to the concept of a dentist and they looked around in
there to make sure there were no problems. This was a pediatric dentist. M
this is one of those your mileage may vary things. If you have the coverage
I would use it. If not, it isn't worth going into debt over it unless there
is a sign of some sort of problem. That's my take. We had coverage and went
for the sealants, definitely worth the trouble imho.

I forgot to add that baby teeth lay the foundation for adult teeth. Having
them checked out can prevent many later problems that would otherwise require
some kind of orthodontics to correct.

To follow on Jim's suggestion, by going early, before there are problems. One
can hopefully get the child used to normal painless routines, and to some
extent avoid the dread of later visits that are to "fix" problems.

My niece is 10 months old and only has 2 teeth... she's probably good for a
while. :)
We keep telling her to brush but she assumes her mom will do it for her...

Barring trouble of some sort, when they start getting adult teeth. I
think that's around 6. On the other hand, my cousin flipped over his
handleb
I'd go ahead and get it if it isn't too expensive. Kids start losing baby
teeth around 5-6 don't they?

Barring trouble of some sort, when they start getting adult teeth. I
think that's around 6. On the other hand, my cousin flipped over his
handlebars at 4 and chipped his teeth enough that he had to go to the
dentist. So YMMV.

Informal poll...
We're in the midst of open enrollment here at work. Not sure if i
need to choose dental coverage for my kids.
They are 3 years old (turned 3 in june) and 1 year old (turned 1 in sept).
At what age do kids start going to the dentist?
