Dear All, I agree with Jonathan's recent summary of the discussion and support the standard names as suggested by Jim and Jonathan. Odele, Peter and Judith, the proposers, have all previously indicated that this would be an acceptable solution, so I think we now have consensus on the names. Bas

I'd really like to wrap up the discussion of canonical units for practical salinity, since the oceansites people are writing data sets on a daily basis and don't want to be creating files where the data will be mis- interpreted, or non-compliant with CF. I know there are side issues having to do

Dear Nan, All, I think we have reached agreement to change the canonical units of Practical Salinity from 1e-3 to 1. I've now had some time to work on the definition. Currently in the standard name table we have: sea_water_practical_salinity (canonical units: 1e-3) Practical Salinity, S_P, is de

Thanks, Alison. Should remote sensing data be called practical salinity, or the less-specific sea surface salinity? The definition pretty clearly states that practical salinity is derived from conductivity, so I wonder if we need to include anything at all about remote sensing data in this def
